Semaglutide - YouthFuel

Why am I starting Semaglutide?

I know you must be wondering why I am starting Semaglutide. Well, here’s my story…

One day after school, when I was 14 years old, I was cooking dinner for my family when suddenly my mom quickly stops and stares at me. Looking up and down at me with a confused and slightly curious face, she asks if I was okay. I looked back at her confused as I tried to figure out what was going through her mind. I thought for a moment and said “I think everything is okay, why, what’s going on?” Then she proceeded to ask if my stomach was okay and if I had been eating. Prior to this moment, the past couple weeks, I remembered I wasn’t eating as much and getting full very quickly. I would look in the mirror and my face seemed slimmer, and my collar bones were popping out more than usual. Yet, my pants were getting tighter. Once I recalled this, I mentioned it to my mom, and she was a bit concern and followed up with making an annual appointment with my doctor since it was about that time to do so anyways.

Annual Appointment

At my appointment, the doctor proceeded with a normal exam until she got to my tummy. She pushed a little bit harder under my belly button and continued there for a while. Her face seemed concerned, and she asked my parents to leave the room. Which definitely did not make the situation better. The looks on my parents faces when they were leaving the room was gut retching. I was scared. Once everything was over and I spoke to the doctor, she had my parents come back in and they were very nervous to hear what’s going on. We were all very nervous to hear what was going on. She mentioned to them that we need an ultrasound and X-ray stat.

Imaging Appointment

At my imaging appointment, I was so nervous and scared. I laid on my back on a table while lights and sounds were going off around me. I didn’t know much about imaging when I was 14 years old, but as an adult, I would’ve asked if they wanted imaging from the side. Which is an important detail later on. Once everything was done, they mentioned my images would be looked over and to see my doctor in a week. I see my doctor again and she lets us know the results. “You have a small ovarian cyst on your right ovary. They will need to operate because even though it is small, it is larger than it needs to be. They will need to remove it so it doesn’t grow anymore. With that said, we have to check if it is cancerous.” This was all a shock to us and made my mom very nervous since she was a survivor of Breast Cancer not even 4 years prior.

Surgery Day

Surgery day was here, and we were up very early. I remember going over everything with my parents and the surgeon in the prep room. He mentioned to me that my cyst was the size of a golf ball and that he was only doing a 1 inch cut on my belly to remove it. My surgery would be easy and should be no more than 1-2 hours. I was nervous but trusted him, I mean, what else could I do? As I’m getting rolled away, the nurse that’s helping push me to the operating room says, “You’re going to be okay, the medicine is about to hit you, you won’t even remember anything after this sentence.” And she was right.

Many hours later I wake up from surgery and it seemed a lot later in the day. Mind you, I surgery was around 8-10am and it was only supposed to take 1-2 hours. My mom jumped out of the chair next to me when I woke up and was so happy to see me. I was happy but confused with the over excitement. I asked what happened. And she looked to concerned to tell me. She said she’d call my dad and doctor in to speak with me and see me. Doctor walks in and says “How’s my strong girl? How do you feel?” I was pumped with so much medicine that I wasn’t fully awake yet, but felt fine with a bit of pressure on my stomach. Then the surgeon proceeds to tell me everything that happened while I was on the table.

He said he went in like normal and for some reason when he was trying to suck out the cyst, it would not move, not even a little bit. He was confused and kept checking the images. And then he said he thought to himself, “do we have any images from the side? Do we truly know the circumference of this cyst?”. Unfortunately, We did not. He said, “im sorry to inform you that I had to make a 13 inch emergency C-section cut on you. The cyst ended up being a 8 pound monster that was attached to your ovary and I couldn’t save your right ovary. Your going to be in a good amount of pain and your going to be out of school for a few weeks to recover. But, on the plus side, Your tummy is going to be very flat, because it took up a good amount of space in there!”

Than I turned 21…

I got married when I was 20 years old. Things were great and everything was normal when it came to my health. But once I turned 21, it was like another person was born.

At this time I had yet to find a new primary doctor and It had been over a year that I had seen one. I started having crazy mood swings. I was always anxious, and I started to cry almost every day. My period would come maybe every 3-6 months and my hair was shedding like crazy. I thought it was all just stress, which was partially correct, because stress makes all my symptoms worse. I finally did some research and found my current primary doctor who specializes in women’s health.

I made my first appointment and finally met and spoke with my doctor. She quickly responses with, “It’s clear you have P.C.O.S. Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. Did you know you had p.c.o.s?”. I had no idea what she was talking about. But everything made sense when she started to explain it to me. But, the question that stayed with me till this day was, why did the doctors not tell me this when I was 14? I had very similar symptoms, and I had a huge tumor on my ovary. Yet all they cared about was taking the tumor out but not why it happened in the first place and how do we prevent more from creating in the future. And if my parents and I knew then why I had a tumor in the first place, could I have been able to manage and prevent my symptoms better now? All these questions and “what if’s” started to flood my mind. But I could only focus on the now and move forward.

I google searched P.C.O.S for you just incase you were curious: GOOGLE

Semaglutide - YouthFuel

I’ve heard all these great things about Semaglutide and I finally asked my doctor about it. She mentioned that I would be a great candidate for it and I would check most of the boxes off to qualify for insurance to cover most of it. This was before the craze hit and at this time it was called Wagovy. We ran some tests and I qualified for it and my insurance paid for almost all of it. I tried it for 1-2 months and it was a miracle worker for me.

Now at this time, I had also developed Psoriasis and it was all over my body, and I was the heaviest I had ever been. This is why I finally had the courage to ask my doctor about the “miracle” drug. With in 1-2 months my weight started to go down and I hadn’t seen weight come off me in over 5 years. But most importantly, my psoriasis went 95% away! I couldn’t believe the effect it had on my body when it came to my inflammation. On month 3, the craze happened and my insurance no longer covered anything.

It has been over a year and a half since I’ve tried any medication like Wagovy and Semaglutide. And all along my doctor has been sending appeals, notes, and my medical history to my insurance to cover it because it had an amazing effect in not only my weight, but my skin, my hormones levels, inflammation, mood and overall health. She finally suggested to find a Medical spa or specialist office that can also get me the medication. And that’s when YouthFuel came along and saved the day!
